NYC Rain Jacket
Story about a little NYC rain jacket. I created this jacket using fabric I won a few years ago. The story goes…I discovered a very talented and creative woman named Tree. She owns and runs a Youtube channel called Stitchless TV - how to sew your own style tutorials. Whilst all the tutorials are amazing, it was there I saw Tree’s “Sculptural Bucket Coat” pattern and online instructions. After ordering and receiving the pattern, I quickly began creating. It’s a wonderful pattern, and she describes how you can use it to make dresses too! I posted my bucket coat on instagram, she saw it, and next thing I knew she emailed to tell me I won some of her very own fabric. You can see the prize winning bucket coat I made in my ‘Coat Collection.’ And check out Tree’s IG page too, she has a link in her bio with even more things to browse, IG - @stitchless_tv
Yes, she designs fabric too. The two pieces I won, shown here, are a Tentex, Waterproof fabric. One image is of NYC, the other are postcard words. These particular prints also come in a cotton or Bayeaux Upholstery which is like velvet, link to these fabrics www.fashion-formula.com/shop/new-york. I enjoyed working with this fabric, easy to press, cut and stitch. I used a very simple design so I could keep all the prints and words from getting to chopped up.
To carry on with the rain wear theme, I made a little peplum skirt using a 2 way stretch vinyl in NYC from www.spandexhouse.com.
The jacket pattern is Vogue #8142. It works well with faux furs too.
