The Not-So-Basic, Upcycled T-Shirt

Not your typical white t-shirt. Using four t-shirts, a few from my wardrobe, and a few I’ve found in thrift stores, mixing and matching, slicing, cutting and collaging, I created this longer version of a t-shirt.

I started with Butterick pattern, 6136 as the base. I altered the sleeves, neckline, and length of the shirt a bit. I think even lengthening more it would be a great dress.

Tips: I try to find the largest t-shirts possible. Giving you more fabric to play with. And I find the weights of the t-shirts work better if they have similar weights to them. Not end all or that necessary, but is helpful. The lighter weights are good for sleeve sections. The beefier the knit the better, they tend to have less rolling at cut edges.
