Ezra In Denim

A recycled denim jacket I created, using the Ezra Coat pattern, by @alabamachanin. Photos by @robert.gelber. Recycled denim comprises the jacket. Skirt I created, and is also an @alabamachanin pattern.

Over 10 years ago I traveled to Florence, Alabama to study with Alabama Chanin at The Factory. It was still in the beginning stages and has grown by leaps and bounds over the years. Using a relatively new pattern they created, The Ezra Coat, I stitched up with recycled denim pieces. While it is designed to use with knits, and directions call for hand stitching, I just cut it a tiny bit larger to give it ease using woven fabric. I also added a 1/2” seam allowance, and stitched on the machine. The pattern comes in 4 lengths, this is the blazer length. The skirt is also one of their patterns, which I created just after that retreat 10 years ago. It’s all hand stitched and still going strong. I love the way the fabric has softened over the years. Check out their website for all their offerings, as there are many. From garments to purchase, patterns, fabric, notions, just to name a few, www.alabamachanin.com
