Go Beyond Fear
Another addition to my “Exploring Memories” collection. It seems I now have another category, “Go Beyond Fear.” If you’ve been with me a while, you might remember the black denim dress a while back with these very words.
This is a shawl that I quilted with a trapunto technique on muslin for each letter GO BEYOND FEAR, my mantra these days. After the letters are stitched on a double layer of fabric, muslin in this case, the back of each letter is snipped and stuffed. Giving the letters a puffy/raised texture.
Using scraps of muslin, and the loose threads at the selvedge edges of the fabric, plus thin strips of black cotton fabrics, and a few feathers tossed, I spun ‘yarn.’ For this spun muslin I used a simple drop spindle. The yarn is free-form crocheted along the edges. I used an awl to punch tiny holes along the edges to get the crochet started. I added some darts at the shoulder areas so it sits easier on the body.
Again, this shawl works nicely as an accessory with the Uniform Dress I began the Exploring Memories series/collection with.
